2. Definitions.—In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires,— (a) "Panchayat" means an institution of self-government constituted under article 243B of the Constitution for the rural areas; (b) "village" means a village specified by the Governor by public notification to be a village for the purposes of this Act; (c) "notification" means a notification published in the Official Gazette, and the expression "notified" shall be construed accordingly; (d) "prescribed" means prescribed by rules made under this Act.
