2. Definitions.—In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires,— (a) "arbitration" means any arbitration whether or not administered by permanent arbitral institution; (b) "arbitral tribunal" means a sole arbitrator or a panel of arbitrators; (c) "arbitration agreement" means an agreement by the parties to submit to arbitration all or certain disputes which have arisen or which may arise between them in respect of a defined legal relationship, whether contractual or not; (d) "Council" means the Arbitration Council of India established under section 43B of the Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996 (26 of 1996); (e) "notification" means a notification published in the Official Gazette, and the expression "notified" shall be construed accordingly; (f) "prescribed" means prescribed by rules made under this Act.
