2. Definitions.—In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires,— (a) "applicant" means a person who applies for registration under this Act; (b) "Controller" means the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks referred to in section 73 of the Patents Act, 1970 (39 of 1970); (c) "register" means the register maintained under section 6; (d) "proprietor" means the person for the time being entered in the register as proprietor of the mark; (e) "patentee" means the person for the time being entered on the register as the grantee or proprietor of the patent; (f) "work" means a literary, dramatic, musical or artistic work, a cinematograph film or a sound recording; (g) "notification" means a notification published in the Official Gazette, and the expression "notified" shall be construed accordingly; (h) "prescribed" means prescribed by rules made under this Act.
