2. Definitions.—In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires,— (a) "offence" means any act or omission made punishable by any law for the time being in force; (b) "public servant" means a person falling under any of the descriptions in section 21 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860 (45 of 1860), and includes an officer of the Central Government or a State Government; (c) "property" includes movable and immovable property and any interest therein; (d) "Magistrate" means a Judicial Magistrate of the first class having jurisdiction in the area concerned; (e) "notified area" means an area declared as such by the Central Government by notification; (f) "designated authority" means the authority designated under section 3; (g) "notification" means a notification published in the Official Gazette, and the expression "notified" shall be construed accordingly; (h) "prescribed" means prescribed by rules made under this Act.
