Section 2, Central Provinces Tenancy Act, 1898 [S15-B6A]

2. Definitions.—In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires,— (a) "allottee" in relation to a real estate project, means the person to whom a plot, apartment or building has been allotted, sold or otherwise transferred by the promoter; (b) "promoter" means a person who constructs or causes to be constructed an independent building or a building consisting of apartments, or converts an existing building or a part thereof into apartments, for the purpose of selling all or some of the apartments to other persons; (c) "Authority" means the Real Estate Regulatory Authority established under section 20 of the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016 (16 of 2016); (d) "landlord" means a person who, for the time being, is receiving, or is entitled to receive, the rent of any premises, whether on his own account or on account of or on behalf of, or for the benefit of, any other person; (e) "tenant" means any person by whom or on whose account or behalf the rent of any premises is, or but for a special contract would be, payable; (f) "notification" means a notification published in the Official Gazette, and the expression "notified" shall be construed accordingly; (g) "prescribed" means prescribed by rules made under this Act.
