Duplicate certificate.—Where a certificate of registration is lost, destroyed or defaced, the assessee shall apply to the Principal Chief Commissioner in Form ITR-1 for a duplicate, accompanied by a fee of five thousand rupees, and the Principal Chief Commissioner shall issue a duplicate certificate marked as such within one hundred and twenty days of the application.
