Section 2, Indian Institutes of Information Technology (Public-Private Partnership) Act, 2017 [S27-VSY]

2. Definitions.—In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires,— (a) "data" means a representation of information, facts, concepts, opinions or instructions in a manner suitable for communication, interpretation or processing by human beings or by automated means; (b) "data fiduciary" means any person who alone or in conjunction with other persons determines the purpose and means of processing of personal data; (c) "electronic record" means data, record or data generated, image or sound stored, received or sent in an electronic form or micro film or computer generated micro fiche; (d) "intermediary" with respect to any particular electronic records, means any person who on behalf of another person receives, stores or transmits that record or provides any service with respect to that record; (e) "personal data" means any data about an individual who is identifiable by or in relation to such data; (f) "Board" means the Data Protection Board of India established under section 18; (g) "notification" means a notification published in the Official Gazette, and the expression "notified" shall be construed accordingly; (h) "prescribed" means prescribed by rules made under this Act.
