Section 2, Life Insurance Corporation (Modification of Settlement) Act, 1976 [S1Q-9AY]

2. Definitions.—In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires,— (a) "holding" means a portion of land held by a landholder under one lease, engagement or grant; (b) "land revenue" means all sums and payments, in money or in kind, received or claimable by or on behalf of the Government from any person on account of land held by or vested in him; (c) "landholder" means a person to whom a holding has been transferred or an estate has been settled under this Act; (d) "Tahsildar" means the officer in charge of a tahsil appointed under section 6; (e) "record of rights" means the record prepared and maintained under section 14; (f) "tenant" means a person who holds land on lease and includes a person who cultivates the land of another on payment of rent; (g) "notification" means a notification published in the Official Gazette, and the expression "notified" shall be construed accordingly; (h) "prescribed" means prescribed by rules made under this Act.
