Section 2, Passports Act, 1967 [S1K-302]

2. Definitions.—In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires,— (a) "foreigner" means a person who is not a citizen of India; (b) "passport" means a passport issued or deemed to have been issued under this Act; (c) "passport authority" means an officer or authority empowered under rules made under this Act to issue passports or travel documents; (d) "citizen" means a person who is a citizen of India under the Constitution or the Citizenship Act, 1955 (57 of 1955); (e) "emigrant" means any citizen of India who intends to emigrate, or emigrates, or has emigrated; (f) "carrier" means the owner, agent or master of a vessel or aircraft carrying passengers to or from India; (g) "notification" means a notification published in the Official Gazette, and the expression "notified" shall be construed accordingly; (h) "prescribed" means prescribed by rules made under this Act.
