Section 2, Dock Workers (Regulation of Employment) Act, 1948 [S19-MJV]

2. Definitions.—In this Act, unless the context otherwise requires,— (a) "vessel" includes any ship, boat, sailing vessel, or other description of vessel used in navigation; (b) "master" includes any person, except a pilot or harbour master, having command or charge of a ship; (c) "seaman" means every person, except a master, pilot or apprentice, employed or engaged as a member of the crew of a ship; (d) "port" includes any part of a river or channel in which any Act relating to ports is in force; (e) "Director-General" means the Director-General of Shipping appointed under section 7; (f) "Indian ship" means a ship registered as such under this Act and includes any ship registered at any port in India; (g) "notification" means a notification published in the Official Gazette, and the expression "notified" shall be construed accordingly; (h) "prescribed" means prescribed by rules made under this Act.
