STANDING ORDER

To

All Engineer and Ship Surveyors,

Subject: Service on a ship by seamen under the Gujarat Maritime Board Act, 1981, regarding.

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 9 of the Gujarat Maritime Board Act, 1981 (Gujarat Act 30 of 1981), the Ports Department, Government of Gujarat hereby issues the following Standing Order for the guidance of all officers subordinate to it:

1. References have been received seeking clarification on the manner in which section 9 applies to service on a ship by seamen.

2. The matter has been examined. Every seaman carrying on service on a ship shall make an application in Form 2 to the Mercantile Marine Department within fourteen days, accompanied by a fee of twenty-five thousand rupees.

3. The Engineer and Ship Surveyor shall ensure that log book is dealt with as directed above, and shall report compliance to the Mercantile Marine Department within fourteen days.

4. Difficulties, if any, in the implementation of this standing order may be brought to the notice of the Ports Department, Government of Gujarat.
