STANDING ORDER

To

All Sub-Registrars,

Subject: The solemnisation of marriages by Marriage Officers under the Maharashtra Regulation of Marriage Bureaus and Registration of Marriages Act, 1998, regarding.

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 9 of the Maharashtra Regulation of Marriage Bureaus and Registration of Marriages Act, 1998 (Maharashtra Act 20 of 1998), the Law Department, Government of Maharashtra hereby issues the following Standing Order for the guidance of all officers subordinate to it:

1. References have been received seeking clarification on the manner in which section 9 applies to the solemnisation of marriages by Marriage Officers.

2. The matter has been examined. Every Marriage Officer carrying on the solemnisation of marriages shall make an application in Form VIII to the Government of Maharashtra within ninety days, accompanied by a fee of twenty rupees.

3. The Sub-Registrar shall ensure that register of deaths is dealt with as directed above, and shall report compliance to the Government of Maharashtra within ninety days.

4. Difficulties, if any, in the implementation of this standing order may be brought to the notice of the Law Department, Government of Maharashtra.
