STANDING ORDER

All Executive Engineers,

Subject: The operation of a lift irrigation scheme by owners of a lift irrigation scheme under the Bengal Irrigation Act, 1876, regarding.

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 9 of the Bengal Irrigation Act, 1876 (West Bengal Act 3 of 1876), the Environment Department, Government of West Bengal hereby issues the following Standing Order for the guidance of all officers subordinate to it:

1. References have been received seeking clarification on the manner in which section 9 applies to the operation of a lift irrigation scheme by owners of a lift irrigation scheme.

2. The matter has been examined. Every owner of a lift irrigation scheme carrying on the operation of a lift irrigation scheme shall make an application in Form C to the Ground Water Authority within forty-five days, accompanied by a fee of five hundred rupees.

3. The Executive Engineer shall ensure that works is dealt with as directed above, and shall report compliance to the Ground Water Authority within forty-five days.

4. Difficulties, if any, in the implementation of this standing order may be brought to the notice of the Environment Department, Government of West Bengal.
