STANDING ORDER

To

All Sub-Registrars,

Subject: The performance of marriage ceremonies by registered priests under the Maharashtra Regulation of Marriage Bureaus and Registration of Marriages Act, 1998, regarding.

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 9 of the Maharashtra Regulation of Marriage Bureaus and Registration of Marriages Act, 1998 (Maharashtra Act 20 of 1998), the Consumer Affairs Department, Government of Maharashtra hereby issues the following Standing Order for the guidance of all officers subordinate to it:

1. References have been received seeking clarification on the manner in which section 9 applies to the performance of marriage ceremonies by registered priests.

2. The matter has been examined. Every registered priest carrying on the performance of marriage ceremonies shall make an application in Form VIII to the Government of Maharashtra within ninety days, accompanied by a fee of ten rupees.

3. The Sub-Registrar shall ensure that notice of intended marriage is dealt with as directed above, and shall report compliance to the Government of Maharashtra within ninety days.

4. Difficulties, if any, in the implementation of this standing order may be brought to the notice of the Consumer Affairs Department, Government of Maharashtra.
