STANDING ORDER

To

All Divisional Canal Officers,

Subject: The extraction of ground water by person drawing ground waters under the Kerala Irrigation and Water Conservation Act, 2003, regarding.

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 9 of the Kerala Irrigation and Water Conservation Act, 2003 (Kerala Act 31 of 2003), the Water Resources Department, Government of Kerala hereby issues the following Standing Order for the guidance of all officers subordinate to it:

1. References have been received seeking clarification on the manner in which section 9 applies to the extraction of ground water by person drawing ground waters.

2. The matter has been examined. Every person drawing ground water carrying on the extraction of ground water shall make an application in Form D to the Irrigation Authority within thirty days, accompanied by a fee of fifty rupees.

3. The Divisional Canal Officer shall ensure that sample of water is dealt with as directed above, and shall report compliance to the Irrigation Authority within thirty days.

4. Difficulties, if any, in the implementation of this standing order may be brought to the notice of the Water Resources Department, Government of Kerala.
