STANDING ORDER
To
All Irrigation Inspectors,
Subject: The drawing of water from a river by riparian owners under the Bengal Irrigation Act, 1876, regarding.
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 9 of the Bengal Irrigation Act, 1876 (West Bengal Act 3 of 1876), the Revenue Department, Government of West Bengal hereby issues the following Standing Order for the guidance of all officers subordinate to it:
1. References have been received seeking clarification on the manner in which section 9 applies to the drawing of water from a river by riparian owners.
2. The matter has been examined. Every riparian owner carrying on the drawing of water from a river shall make an application in Form F to the Tribunal within forty-five days, accompanied by a fee of five hundred rupees.
3. The Irrigation Inspector shall ensure that dispute is dealt with as directed above, and shall report compliance to the Tribunal within forty-five days.
4. Difficulties, if any, in the implementation of this standing order may be brought to the notice of the Revenue Department, Government of West Bengal.
