STANDING ORDER

To

All Registrars of Marriages,

Subject: The performance of marriage ceremonies by registered priests under the Karnataka Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments Act, 1997, regarding.

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 9 of the Karnataka Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments Act, 1997 (Karnataka Act 33 of 1997), the Law Department, Government of Karnataka hereby issues the following Standing Order for the guidance of all officers subordinate to it:

1. References have been received seeking clarification on the manner in which section 9 applies to the performance of marriage ceremonies by registered priests.

2. The matter has been examined. Every registered priest carrying on the performance of marriage ceremonies shall make an application in Form II to the District Registrar within ninety days, accompanied by a fee of one hundred rupees.

3. The Registrar of Marriages shall ensure that will is dealt with as directed above, and shall report compliance to the District Registrar within ninety days.

4. Difficulties, if any, in the implementation of this standing order may be brought to the notice of the Law Department, Government of Karnataka.
