STANDING ORDER

To

All Canal Officers,

Subject: The drawing of water from a river by riparian owners under the Bengal Irrigation Act, 1876, regarding.

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 9 of the Bengal Irrigation Act, 1876 (West Bengal Act 3 of 1876), the Housing Department, Government of West Bengal hereby issues the following Standing Order for the guidance of all officers subordinate to it:

1. References have been received seeking clarification on the manner in which section 9 applies to the drawing of water from a river by riparian owners.

2. The matter has been examined. Every riparian owner carrying on the drawing of water from a river shall make an application in Form C to the Canal Officer within thirty days, accompanied by a fee of fifty rupees.

3. The Canal Officer shall ensure that register of users is dealt with as directed above, and shall report compliance to the Canal Officer within thirty days.

4. Difficulties, if any, in the implementation of this standing order may be brought to the notice of the Housing Department, Government of West Bengal.
