OFFICE MEMORANDUM

Subject: The performance of marriage ceremonies by registered priests under the Karnataka Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments Act, 1997, regarding.

1. The undersigned is directed to say that references have been received in the Law Department, Government of Karnataka on the manner in which the performance of marriage ceremonies by registered priests is to be regulated under the Karnataka Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments Act, 1997.

2. The matter has been examined. Every registered priest carrying on the performance of marriage ceremonies shall make an application in Form I to the Family Court within one hundred and twenty days, accompanied by a fee of twenty rupees.

3. It is, accordingly, clarified that a separate application shall be made in respect of each place at which the performance of marriage ceremonies is undertaken, and the Family Court shall dispose of it within one hundred and twenty days of its receipt.

4. Difficulties, if any, in the implementation of this office memorandum may be brought to the notice of the Law Department, Government of Karnataka.
