STANDING ORDER

To

All Canal Officers,

Subject: The discharge of effluent into a stream by person discharging effluent into a streams under the Maharashtra Irrigation Act, 1976, regarding.

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 9 of the Maharashtra Irrigation Act, 1976 (Maharashtra Act 38 of 1976), the Water Resources Department, Government of Maharashtra hereby issues the following Standing Order for the guidance of all officers subordinate to it:

1. References have been received seeking clarification on the manner in which section 9 applies to the discharge of effluent into a stream by person discharging effluent into a streams.

2. The matter has been examined. Every person discharging effluent into a stream carrying on the discharge of effluent into a stream shall make an application in Form B to the Irrigation Authority within thirty days, accompanied by a fee of five thousand rupees.

3. The Canal Officer shall ensure that dispute is dealt with as directed above, and shall report compliance to the Irrigation Authority within thirty days.

4. Difficulties, if any, in the implementation of this standing order may be brought to the notice of the Water Resources Department, Government of Maharashtra.
