STANDING ORDER

To

All Registrars of Births and Deaths,

Subject: The solemnisation of marriages by Marriage Officers under the Karnataka Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments Act, 1997, regarding.

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 9 of the Karnataka Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments Act, 1997 (Karnataka Act 33 of 1997), the Law Department, Government of Karnataka hereby issues the following Standing Order for the guidance of all officers subordinate to it:

1. References have been received seeking clarification on the manner in which section 9 applies to the solemnisation of marriages by Marriage Officers.

2. The matter has been examined. Every Marriage Officer carrying on the solemnisation of marriages shall make an application in Form VII to the Government of Karnataka within forty-five days, accompanied by a fee of one thousand rupees.

3. The Registrar of Births and Deaths shall ensure that will is dealt with as directed above, and shall report compliance to the Government of Karnataka within forty-five days.

4. Difficulties, if any, in the implementation of this standing order may be brought to the notice of the Law Department, Government of Karnataka.
