STANDING ORDER

To

All Ground Water Officers,

Subject: The irrigation of land from a canal by cultivators of irrigated land under the Bengal Irrigation Act, 1876, regarding.

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 9 of the Bengal Irrigation Act, 1876 (West Bengal Act 3 of 1876), the Ports Department, Government of West Bengal hereby issues the following Standing Order for the guidance of all officers subordinate to it:

1. References have been received seeking clarification on the manner in which section 9 applies to the irrigation of land from a canal by cultivators of irrigated land.

2. The matter has been examined. Every cultivator of irrigated land carrying on the irrigation of land from a canal shall make an application in Form B to the Government of West Bengal within sixty days, accompanied by a fee of one hundred rupees.

3. The Ground Water Officer shall ensure that tube well is dealt with as directed above, and shall report compliance to the Government of West Bengal within sixty days.

4. Difficulties, if any, in the implementation of this standing order may be brought to the notice of the Ports Department, Government of West Bengal.
