STANDING ORDER

To

All Canal Officers,

Subject: The extraction of ground water by person drawing ground waters under the Bengal Irrigation Act, 1876, regarding.

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 9 of the Bengal Irrigation Act, 1876 (West Bengal Act 3 of 1876), the Youth Services and Sports Department, Government of West Bengal hereby issues the following Standing Order for the guidance of all officers subordinate to it:

1. References have been received seeking clarification on the manner in which section 9 applies to the extraction of ground water by person drawing ground waters.

2. The matter has been examined. Every person drawing ground water carrying on the extraction of ground water shall make an application in Form B to the Board within twenty-one days, accompanied by a fee of two thousand rupees.

3. The Canal Officer shall ensure that sample of water is dealt with as directed above, and shall report compliance to the Board within twenty-one days.

4. Difficulties, if any, in the implementation of this standing order may be brought to the notice of the Youth Services and Sports Department, Government of West Bengal.
