OFFICE MEMORANDUM

Subject: The keeping of a zoo by keepers of a zoo under the Kerala Forest Act, 1961, regarding.

1. The undersigned is directed to say that references have been received in the Environment Department, Government of Kerala on the manner in which the keeping of a zoo by keepers of a zoo is to be regulated under the Kerala Forest Act, 1961.

2. The matter has been examined. Every keeper of a zoo carrying on the keeping of a zoo shall make an application in Form I to the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests within one hundred and twenty days, accompanied by a fee of one lakh rupees.

3. It is, accordingly, clarified that a separate application shall be made in respect of each place at which the keeping of a zoo is undertaken, and the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests shall dispose of it within one hundred and twenty days of its receipt.

4. Difficulties, if any, in the implementation of this office memorandum may be brought to the notice of the Environment Department, Government of Kerala.
