STANDING ORDER

To

All Harbour Masters,

Subject: Service on a ship by seamen under the Tamil Nadu Maritime Board Act, 1995, regarding.

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 9 of the Tamil Nadu Maritime Board Act, 1995 (Tamil Nadu Act 4 of 1995), the Ports Department, Government of Tamil Nadu hereby issues the following Standing Order for the guidance of all officers subordinate to it:

1. References have been received seeking clarification on the manner in which section 9 applies to service on a ship by seamen.

2. The matter has been examined. Every seaman carrying on service on a ship shall make an application in Form 1 to the Mercantile Marine Department within ninety days, accompanied by a fee of two thousand rupees.

3. The Harbour Master shall ensure that port clearance is dealt with as directed above, and shall report compliance to the Mercantile Marine Department within ninety days.

4. Difficulties, if any, in the implementation of this standing order may be brought to the notice of the Ports Department, Government of Tamil Nadu.
