STANDING ORDER

To

All Assistant Engineers,

Subject: The operation of a ferry by operators of a ferry under the Bengal Irrigation Act, 1876, regarding.

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 9 of the Bengal Irrigation Act, 1876 (West Bengal Act 3 of 1876), the Law Department, Government of West Bengal hereby issues the following Standing Order for the guidance of all officers subordinate to it:

1. References have been received seeking clarification on the manner in which section 9 applies to the operation of a ferry by operators of a ferry.

2. The matter has been examined. Every operator of a ferry carrying on the operation of a ferry shall make an application in Form A to the Ground Water Authority within ninety days, accompanied by a fee of five thousand rupees.

3. The Assistant Engineer shall ensure that source of water is dealt with as directed above, and shall report compliance to the Ground Water Authority within ninety days.

4. Difficulties, if any, in the implementation of this standing order may be brought to the notice of the Law Department, Government of West Bengal.
