STANDING ORDER

To

All Registrars of Marriages,

Subject: The performance of marriage ceremonies by registered priests under the Maharashtra Regulation of Marriage Bureaus and Registration of Marriages Act, 1998, regarding.

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 9 of the Maharashtra Regulation of Marriage Bureaus and Registration of Marriages Act, 1998 (Maharashtra Act 20 of 1998), the Law Department, Government of Maharashtra hereby issues the following Standing Order for the guidance of all officers subordinate to it:

1. References have been received seeking clarification on the manner in which section 9 applies to the performance of marriage ceremonies by registered priests.

2. The matter has been examined. Every registered priest carrying on the performance of marriage ceremonies shall make an application in Form IV to the Registrar General within one hundred and twenty days, accompanied by a fee of one thousand rupees.

3. The Registrar of Marriages shall ensure that inventory of the estate is dealt with as directed above, and shall report compliance to the Registrar General within one hundred and twenty days.

4. Difficulties, if any, in the implementation of this standing order may be brought to the notice of the Law Department, Government of Maharashtra.
