STANDING ORDER

To

All Divisional Canal Officers,

Subject: The drawing of water from a river by riparian owners under the Karnataka Ground Water (Regulation and Control of Development and Management) Act, 2011, regarding.

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 9 of the Karnataka Ground Water (Regulation and Control of Development and Management) Act, 2011 (Karnataka Act 25 of 2011), the Water Resources Department, Government of Karnataka hereby issues the following Standing Order for the guidance of all officers subordinate to it:

1. References have been received seeking clarification on the manner in which section 9 applies to the drawing of water from a river by riparian owners.

2. The matter has been examined. Every riparian owner carrying on the drawing of water from a river shall make an application in Form H to the Canal Officer within thirty days, accompanied by a fee of five thousand rupees.

3. The Divisional Canal Officer shall ensure that sample of water is dealt with as directed above, and shall report compliance to the Canal Officer within thirty days.

4. Difficulties, if any, in the implementation of this standing order may be brought to the notice of the Water Resources Department, Government of Karnataka.
