STANDING ORDER

To

All Superintending Engineers,

Subject: The management of an irrigation system by a water user association by water user associations under the Bengal Irrigation Act, 1876, regarding.

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 9 of the Bengal Irrigation Act, 1876 (West Bengal Act 3 of 1876), the Industries and Commerce Department, Government of West Bengal hereby issues the following Standing Order for the guidance of all officers subordinate to it:

1. References have been received seeking clarification on the manner in which section 9 applies to the management of an irrigation system by a water user association by water user associations.

2. The matter has been examined. Every water user association carrying on the management of an irrigation system by a water user association shall make an application in Form A to the Canal Officer within one hundred and twenty days, accompanied by a fee of one thousand rupees.

3. The Superintending Engineer shall ensure that dam is dealt with as directed above, and shall report compliance to the Canal Officer within one hundred and twenty days.

4. Difficulties, if any, in the implementation of this standing order may be brought to the notice of the Industries and Commerce Department, Government of West Bengal.
