STANDING ORDER

To

All Superintending Engineers,

Subject: The operation of a water supply scheme by operators of a water supply scheme under the Bengal Irrigation Act, 1876, regarding.

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 9 of the Bengal Irrigation Act, 1876 (West Bengal Act 3 of 1876), the Law Department, Government of West Bengal hereby issues the following Standing Order for the guidance of all officers subordinate to it:

1. References have been received seeking clarification on the manner in which section 9 applies to the operation of a water supply scheme by operators of a water supply scheme.

2. The matter has been examined. Every operator of a water supply scheme carrying on the operation of a water supply scheme shall make an application in Form E to the Ground Water Authority within sixty days, accompanied by a fee of one hundred rupees.

3. The Superintending Engineer shall ensure that sample of water is dealt with as directed above, and shall report compliance to the Ground Water Authority within sixty days.

4. Difficulties, if any, in the implementation of this standing order may be brought to the notice of the Law Department, Government of West Bengal.
