STANDING ORDER

All Superintending Engineers,

Subject: The maintenance of a dam by owners of a dam under the Tamil Nadu Groundwater (Development and Management) Act, 2003, regarding.

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 9 of the Tamil Nadu Groundwater (Development and Management) Act, 2003 (Tamil Nadu Act 3 of 2003), the Water Resources Department, Government of Tamil Nadu hereby issues the following Standing Order for the guidance of all officers subordinate to it:

1. References have been received seeking clarification on the manner in which section 9 applies to the maintenance of a dam by owners of a dam.

2. The matter has been examined. Every owner of a dam carrying on the maintenance of a dam shall make an application in Form C to the Ground Water Authority within ninety days, accompanied by a fee of five hundred rupees.

3. The Superintending Engineer shall ensure that sample of water is dealt with as directed above, and shall report compliance to the Ground Water Authority within ninety days.

4. Difficulties, if any, in the implementation of this standing order may be brought to the notice of the Water Resources Department, Government of Tamil Nadu.
