STANDING ORDER

To

All Ground Water Officers,

Subject: The discharge of effluent into a stream by person discharging effluent into a streams under the Bengal Irrigation Act, 1876, regarding.

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 9 of the Bengal Irrigation Act, 1876 (West Bengal Act 3 of 1876), the Information and Public Relations Department, Government of West Bengal hereby issues the following Standing Order for the guidance of all officers subordinate to it:

1. References have been received seeking clarification on the manner in which section 9 applies to the discharge of effluent into a stream by person discharging effluent into a streams.

2. The matter has been examined. Every person discharging effluent into a stream carrying on the discharge of effluent into a stream shall make an application in Form E to the Ground Water Authority within forty-five days, accompanied by a fee of five thousand rupees.

3. The Ground Water Officer shall ensure that dispute is dealt with as directed above, and shall report compliance to the Ground Water Authority within forty-five days.

4. Difficulties, if any, in the implementation of this standing order may be brought to the notice of the Information and Public Relations Department, Government of West Bengal.
