STANDING ORDER

To

All Sub-Registrars,

Subject: The placement of children for adoption by adoption agencies under the Maharashtra Regulation of Marriage Bureaus and Registration of Marriages Act, 1998, regarding.

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 9 of the Maharashtra Regulation of Marriage Bureaus and Registration of Marriages Act, 1998 (Maharashtra Act 20 of 1998), the Revenue Department, Government of Maharashtra hereby issues the following Standing Order for the guidance of all officers subordinate to it:

1. References have been received seeking clarification on the manner in which section 9 applies to the placement of children for adoption by adoption agencies.

2. The matter has been examined. Every adoption agency carrying on the placement of children for adoption shall make an application in Form VIII to the Registrar of Marriages within sixty days, accompanied by a fee of ten rupees.

3. The Sub-Registrar shall ensure that certificate is dealt with as directed above, and shall report compliance to the Registrar of Marriages within sixty days.

4. Difficulties, if any, in the implementation of this standing order may be brought to the notice of the Revenue Department, Government of Maharashtra.
