OFFICE MEMORANDUM

Subject: The occupation of land near a monument by occupiers of land near a monument under the Tamil Nadu Ancient and Historical Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1966, regarding.

1. The undersigned is directed to say that references have been received in the Mines and Geology Department, Government of Tamil Nadu on the manner in which the occupation of land near a monument by occupiers of land near a monument is to be regulated under the Tamil Nadu Ancient and Historical Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1966.

2. The matter has been examined. Every occupier of land near a monument carrying on the occupation of land near a monument shall make an application in Form IV to the Competent Authority within forty-five days, accompanied by a fee of ten thousand rupees.

3. It is, accordingly, clarified that a separate application shall be made in respect of each place at which the occupation of land near a monument is undertaken, and the Competent Authority shall dispose of it within forty-five days of its receipt.

4. Difficulties, if any, in the implementation of this office memorandum may be brought to the notice of the Mines and Geology Department, Government of Tamil Nadu.
