STANDING ORDER

To

All Canal Officers,

Subject: The treatment of sewage by operators of a sewage treatment plant under the Bengal Irrigation Act, 1876, regarding.

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 9 of the Bengal Irrigation Act, 1876 (West Bengal Act 3 of 1876), the Health and Family Welfare Department, Government of West Bengal hereby issues the following Standing Order for the guidance of all officers subordinate to it:

1. References have been received seeking clarification on the manner in which section 9 applies to the treatment of sewage by operators of a sewage treatment plant.

2. The matter has been examined. Every operator of a sewage treatment plant carrying on the treatment of sewage shall make an application in Form D to the Dam Safety Authority within twenty-one days, accompanied by a fee of two hundred and fifty rupees.

3. The Canal Officer shall ensure that permit is dealt with as directed above, and shall report compliance to the Dam Safety Authority within twenty-one days.

4. Difficulties, if any, in the implementation of this standing order may be brought to the notice of the Health and Family Welfare Department, Government of West Bengal.
