STANDING ORDER

To

All Assistant Rent Controllers,

Subject: The running of a private hostel by operators of a hostel for tenants under the Karnataka Rent Act, 1999, regarding.

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 9 of the Karnataka Rent Act, 1999 (Karnataka Act 34 of 1999), the Housing Department, Government of Karnataka hereby issues the following Standing Order for the guidance of all officers subordinate to it:

1. References have been received seeking clarification on the manner in which section 9 applies to the running of a private hostel by operators of a hostel for tenants.

2. The matter has been examined. Every operator of a hostel for tenants carrying on the running of a private hostel shall make an application in Form H to the Competent Authority within forty-five days, accompanied by a fee of five thousand rupees.

3. The Assistant Rent Controller shall ensure that common area is dealt with as directed above, and shall report compliance to the Competent Authority within forty-five days.

4. Difficulties, if any, in the implementation of this standing order may be brought to the notice of the Housing Department, Government of Karnataka.
