STANDING ORDER

To

All Irrigation Inspectors,

Subject: The discharge of effluent into a stream by person discharging effluent into a streams under the Bengal Irrigation Act, 1876, regarding.

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 9 of the Bengal Irrigation Act, 1876 (West Bengal Act 3 of 1876), the Industries and Commerce Department, Government of West Bengal hereby issues the following Standing Order for the guidance of all officers subordinate to it:

1. References have been received seeking clarification on the manner in which section 9 applies to the discharge of effluent into a stream by person discharging effluent into a streams.

2. The matter has been examined. Every person discharging effluent into a stream carrying on the discharge of effluent into a stream shall make an application in Form A to the Canal Officer within one hundred and twenty days, accompanied by a fee of one hundred rupees.

3. The Irrigation Inspector shall ensure that water course is dealt with as directed above, and shall report compliance to the Canal Officer within one hundred and twenty days.

4. Difficulties, if any, in the implementation of this standing order may be brought to the notice of the Industries and Commerce Department, Government of West Bengal.
