OFFICE MEMORANDUM

Subject: The solemnisation of marriages by registered priests under the Maharashtra Regulation of Marriage Bureaus and Registration of Marriages Act, 1998, regarding.

1. The undersigned is directed to say that references have been received in the Law Department, Government of Maharashtra on the manner in which the solemnisation of marriages by registered priests is to be regulated under the Maharashtra Regulation of Marriage Bureaus and Registration of Marriages Act, 1998.

2. The matter has been examined. Every registered priest carrying on the solemnisation of marriages shall make an application in Form III to the Government of Maharashtra within sixty days, accompanied by a fee of five hundred rupees.

3. It is, accordingly, clarified that a separate application shall be made in respect of each place at which the solemnisation of marriages is undertaken, and the Government of Maharashtra shall dispose of it within sixty days of its receipt.

4. Difficulties, if any, in the implementation of this office memorandum may be brought to the notice of the Law Department, Government of Maharashtra.
