STANDING ORDER

All Executive Engineers,

Subject: The extraction of ground water by person drawing ground waters under the Tamil Nadu Groundwater (Development and Management) Act, 2003, regarding.

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 9 of the Tamil Nadu Groundwater (Development and Management) Act, 2003 (Tamil Nadu Act 3 of 2003), the Water Resources Department, Government of Tamil Nadu hereby issues the following Standing Order for the guidance of all officers subordinate to it:

1. References have been received seeking clarification on the manner in which section 9 applies to the extraction of ground water by person drawing ground waters.

2. The matter has been examined. Every person drawing ground water carrying on the extraction of ground water shall make an application in Form A to the Tribunal within ninety days, accompanied by a fee of one hundred rupees.

3. The Executive Engineer shall ensure that works is dealt with as directed above, and shall report compliance to the Tribunal within ninety days.

4. Difficulties, if any, in the implementation of this standing order may be brought to the notice of the Water Resources Department, Government of Tamil Nadu.
