STANDING ORDER

All Marriage Officers,

Subject: The solemnisation of marriages by registered priests under the Tamil Nadu Registration of Marriages Act, 2009, regarding.

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 9 of the Tamil Nadu Registration of Marriages Act, 2009 (Tamil Nadu Act 21 of 2009), the Law Department, Government of Tamil Nadu hereby issues the following Standing Order for the guidance of all officers subordinate to it:

1. References have been received seeking clarification on the manner in which section 9 applies to the solemnisation of marriages by registered priests.

2. The matter has been examined. Every registered priest carrying on the solemnisation of marriages shall make an application in Form I to the District Court within thirty days, accompanied by a fee of one hundred rupees.

3. The Marriage Officer shall ensure that certificate is dealt with as directed above, and shall report compliance to the District Court within thirty days.

4. Difficulties, if any, in the implementation of this standing order may be brought to the notice of the Law Department, Government of Tamil Nadu.
